Course Requirements & Policies

Meetings:

Class will meet every Thursday, from 9:30-10:45am on Zoom. You will need access to a device on which you can access both Zoom and Blackboard in order to participate in this course.

Technical Requirements and Support:

Devices: Because this class is fully online, you will need a device to gain access to course information and assignments. You can use the Blackboard mobile app on your smartphone or tablet. However, you will have an easier time seeing the content from a notebook or computer. If you need a device, please email devicerequest@brooklyn.cuny.edu.

Support: Brooklyn College’s Information Technology Service (ITS) can help with any tech or Blackboard related questions. Please email helpdesk@brooklyn.cuny.edu or call 718.951.4357 Monday–Thursday, 8 a.m.–8 p.m.; Friday 9 a.m.–5 p.m.

Most course readings are linked to in the syllabus. Those that aren’t can be found in the documents section of Blackboard.

Assignments:

Here is a brief rundown of the assignments you will be expected to complete in this course. Detailed assignment sheets will accompany each assignment.

Zoom Attendance (10%): You are expected to be active, thoughtful, and prepared participants in weekly Zoom meetings.

Discussion Posts (20%): Each week, I will post a discussion prompt (in the Discussions section of Blackboard) based on the week’s reading. You will post a response to the prompt, and respond to the post of at least one other student. Initial posts are due no later than 5pm each Monday. Peer responses are due no later than 5pm each Tuesday. Because the posts will guide our class discussion, late posts cannot be accepted.
